My Story
Hi!
Welcome to the home of Peggy Reeves Art and Design. I’m so honored that you would visit me. I am a self-taught acrylic artist who became addicted to painting after taking one art class about seven years ago. I was hooked! Although, If you were to have seen some of my first paintings you might have questioned my extreme passion. For me it was as if I had discovered a new language. A way of communicating that was more expressive and came from a much deeper and profound place. I just couldn’t get enough of it and still can’t!
Most of my adult life has been working various creative jobs, so much so that I often describe myself as an “Eclectic Artist”. Even so, I never truly dreamed of actually becoming one! Now, this eclectic artist has finally discovered one way to pour her creativity into one place…a CANVAS!
My home office…set up as a small gallery.
As I walk into what seems like a chaotic art studio something happens the moment I pick up a paint brush. I enter into a peaceful sanctuary where time stands still and the worries of this world are no longer present. It’s just me with God, my music and a blank canvas waiting to be transformed into a masterpiece.
I paint mostly with acrylics adding touches of oil pastels, inks, different flavors of pencils and textures for added interest. I actually started off as a pallet knife Artist but in the process of discovering my style I switched mainly to brushes…BIG BRUSHES! This change allowed me to paint more freely and achieve a more impressionistic style that I’ve always admired.
Landscapes (Even though I said I would never paint them.) have become a huge part of my body of work along with figuratives, abstracts, and a few florals. I lean towards a more neutral pallet that could break out with streaks of color. My work has a dramatic emphasis on the contrast of dark and light because I want each piece to share a message of hope.
For “God is light and in Him there is no darkness at all.” 1John 1:5b
After I became addicted to painting and realized this was something I wanted to pursue, I spent a year fully committed to painting everyday. I knew that if I was going to do this that I had to learn as much as I could in a short amount of time. I also knew the only way I was going to discover my style and find my voice was through painting….and more painting. Like they say, “If you want to write…write, if you want to sing…sing, If you want to paint…paint”.
I attended collage at Southern Union Junior Collage of Alabama on a Music Scolership and then transferred to Auburn University. I met my husband, Tom Reeves through music. We decided that love was more important than me finishing college. However, I did eventually finished my degree in “Leadership and Ministry” at a local college in Franklin, TN. We married and I joined him in Nashville, TN where he is a music producer/recording engineer. Together we own Westpark Creative Group, a recording studio and production company. For many years, I worked as a creative artist (singing, speaking, art design, writing…) doing contract jobs that were connected mostly to music, writing, and Christian ministry.
We have two children Shauna and Kyle. They are both married to wonderful spouses and have blessed us with three grandkids and three bonus grandkids that I get to be “Queenie” to. Life is good in our home town Franklin, TN where our family is part of the thriving community.
I work to be involved in our local art community through Franklin Art Crawl, local shows and organizations. My work can also be seen in events throughout the southern region. I am blessed to have “SOLD” works in private homes and businesses across the US and Canada. I also have a private studio/gallery that is open for viewings by appointment only.
Becoming an artist at this stage in life is such a gift and I look forward to sharing this journey with you.
