Action Requires Believing

Friday, May 13th, 2011

It takes action steps…steps of faith to complete God’s work in you and through you.

Philippians 2:12-13 says, “Continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to HIS good purpose.” You must persevere and not give up. Don’t quit…don’t stop…take action!!!

I believe we all want more. I’m not talking about just more wealth or success. I believe we all want to make a greater difference in the lives of our family or in the lives of others. We want our life to be significant…to count. We want to make a greater difference even if it’s serving in a small way. We desire to pass down a legacy that brings glory and honor to God. In order for us to experience a life of significance, we must believe and take action. You must believe who you truly are in Christ. You must believe that He has equipped you and will continue to do so to fulfill His purpose for your life. You must believe deep down in your heart that He truly loves you and wants His best for you. He wants to see you live the role He created you to fulfill.

Action requires believing. To believe is to trust that His purpose and His ways are good. It is to trust that He is consistently working to accomplish his purpose in and through you! The steps you take are a testimony to what you truly believe. If you’re having trouble following through with action then you might need to examine what you truly believe. I’m afraid what we often confess to believe is different from what we live and what our heart and mind says to us. At some point lies have taken root and have bloomed into loud walls of defeat. You can’t fully commit until you truly believe in yourself and in God’s purpose for you. The words of doubt that we speak can be the very thing that stops us in our tracks. You will never move beyond the barriers that are in your mind. In order for you to move forward, you will need to replace the lies with God’s Word. “God’s Word is Truth, and the Truth shall make you free! (John 8:32)

1 John 3:21 says, “Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God…” Could the very thing that is causing you to not have the confidence to move forward by the lies that you believe and think? What lies are robbing you of your confidence in yourself and most of all in God?

What If It Fails?

Wednesday, May 11th, 2011

What if it fails? Trying is not failing…doing nothing is failing. The truth is, some things don’t work out the way we expect or when we expect.  However, some of the greatest achievements in history have come after multiple attempts. We wouldn’t have the medical technology we have today if our doctors would have stopped after a failed attempt at a radical procedure.

At least in trying we are taking steps of growth by learning from what does or doesn’t work. The important thing is to believe and take action! With faith and action you fully embrace the life God has created for you.

Believe God and take that step. He will match and increase your faith as you commit to action! Just believing or should I say wishing…won’t get you to where you want to go. You have to back up your believing with action! Faith without action is just a word. Faith with action is believing!

James 2:20-24 says, “You foolish man, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless? Was not our ancestor Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did.

Anchor Deep In The Promise Of Hope

Friday, April 8th, 2011

The Promise Of Hope

"For example, there was God's promise to Abraham, Since there was not one greater to swear by,

God took an oath in his own, saying:

'I will certainly bless you, and I will multiply your descendants beyond number.'

Then Abraham waited patiently, and he received what God had promised.

Now when people take an oath, they call on someone greater than themselves to hold them to it.

And without any question that oath is binding.

God also bound himself with an oath.

So that those who received the promise could be perfectly sure that

he would never change his mind.

So God has given both his promise and his oath.

These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie.

Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence

as we hold to the hope that lies before us.

This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls.

It leads us through the curtain into God's sanctuary.

Jesus has already gone in there for us."

(Hebrews 6:13-20 NLT)

In Times Like These
(Ruth Caye Jones – Mother Jones)

In times like these, You need a Savior

In times like these, You need an anchor

Be very sure, be very sure

Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock.

This Rock is Jesus, yes He's the One!

This Rock is Jesus, the only One.

Be very sure, be very sure

Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock!

A Second Chance!

Thursday, April 7th, 2011

Casey, one of the most talented musicians on American Idol got cut BUT the judges used their only save to give him a second chance. They believed so much in who he was and his giftedness as a musician that they gave him a second chance.

What would you do if you got a second chance? Have you ever thought about what you would do if you got a second chance at being you or just living life? What would you do? How would you change…what would you change? Would you strive to be a better friend, a better spouse, a better parent, or a better Christian? Would you be more devoted to using the gifts God has given you and to fulfilling your purpose? Would you be a better steward at what God has blessed you with and embrace it more fully? Would you stop and smell the roses and savor life? Would you spend more time with God and living in His grace? What would you do if you got a second chance?

God has been speaking to me about second chances…third chances…forth chances. I’m sure I’ve had more than I can even count. He truly is a gracious loving Father! I had a moment the other day…call it hormonal or just crazy not too smart. Anyway, let’s just say I was ready to call it quits and my actions were making a statement! So much that God knew just when to intervene and what to say. I love that about Him!

There was a couple of teaching calls I had downloaded to listen to and in desperation I pulled one up and pressed play. Talking about timely, The words couldn’t have been more direct!!! “If you think the grass is greener on the other side you are crazy!!! That is a lie from Satan! You need to take care of what God has given you and prosper where you are planted.” I’m not sure that those were the exact words but that was the message I received and lets just say…God knows how to speak my language. "Embrace the God life, really embrace it, and nothing will be too much for you." (Mark 11:22-23 The Message)

The Holy Spirit was intentionally working on me! It was not a coincidence, that’s the very life changing message God has been preaching to me for the last six or more years. It is also the message that He has given me a passion to speak about because it is where he calls me to live. God is always telling me, “Peggy, embrace life…embrace what is going on. I’m in control…I’ve got it. Stop trying to fight where you are and who you are. I created you and determined where and when you would live. Stick with me! If I’ve called you to it, I will do it!” (Just as a side note. That “called you to it” isn’t just talking about a ministry, it’s referring to walking in obedience, to parenting, to marriage, to using our gifts, to our career, to making disciples, to being a leader…whatever God has given you to do…be faithful!)

Anyway, at that moment, I felt like God was giving me a second chance. I was truly convicted and fell to my knees in repentance. I knew that I needed to harness my emotions and realign myself with God and His righteousness. I needed to make a major attitude change! It was a wake-up call and God was saying, “Do you really want to walk away from all that I have given you? NO!!! And it didn’t take long for my eyes to be opened and my heart to be reminded of how blessed and fortunate I am. The list just started running through my mind. So, I took a walk and spent that time thanking God for rescuing me from myself once again and giving me a second chance. I spent time thanking Him for where I was and all that He had blessed me with. Sometimes we just need a fresh start…a new look! It is freeing and even motivating!

One of the most amazing things about God is He is a God of second chances. So much, that He gave His Only Son to give us a second chance at life with Him. He is always extending a hand of grace—doing whatever it takes to bring us back to our senses…back to HIM! He never changes. His love for us is as passionate as it was from the beginning of time. He wants us to walk in His blessings…to live in His peace…to rest in His grace…to be showered in His love…to live free…to worship Him in Spirit and Truth… The list goes on and on of the immeasurable blessings He wants so freely to lavish us in.

What does He want from you? He just wants you to receive Him…to receive His love and a grace.

Do you need a second chance! If you do, God is inviting you to experience a second chance with Him. He is waiting to give you one!

Kick Start 2011 With A Solid Foundation

Tuesday, November 16th, 2010

I want to fully embrace the end of 2010, but I also want to anticipate starting 2011 with a strong foundation. To do so I am making some intentional decisions to kick start my year off right. I want my 2011 to be about making an even bigger difference in other people’s lives through my speaking/writing ministry and also my coaching business. Here are 15 things I’ve already implemented:

  1. 1-2011 Power Planning Course
  2. 2-Hired a Christian marketing/business entrepreneur coach
  3. 3-Joined the National Association of Christian Women Entrepreneurs
  4. 4-Became a mentor with  www.leavingthecocoon.net.
  5. 5-Switched my blog to WordPress and adding new post themes. (Motivational Mondays and Thursday Devotional Thoughts)
  6. 6-Study Books to read on coaching and speaking
  7. 7-Working through new Bible Studies
  8. 8-Mentoring with friends
  9. 9-Developed new speaking topics
  10. 10-Developed and developing new Coaching Programs
  11. 11-Purchased items for business (Things, a project/To Do-Organizer for Mac)
  12. 12-Developed and developing a new coaching product line: 30 minutes w/Peggy
  13. 13-Started a Women’s Connect Group
  14. 14-Organizing my workspace
  15. Working through The Inspired Business Tool Kit

This is just a portion of what I actually want to do to get ready for a more focused year in 2011. I have several more items on my list so I likely won’t get all of them done by January 1st, however, my desire is to have a solid foundation laid for a successful year. I want to kick start my new year off right!

I am not listing these things to draw attention to myself, trust me, this is not the norm for me.  I am sharing this with you in hopes that it might encourage you to think about what you want your 2011 to be like and what you can do to help make it happen.

Many of us have lists of great ideas and things we want to get done but it usually stops there. We never get started because we stay so overwhelmed. Sometimes we need help, a plan, a deadline, and most of all….strong motivation. Perhaps this is a good time to get some of those things on your “to do” list done. Maybe by setting your goal to have them done before January 1st you could start your 2011 off much stronger and with greater clarity.

  • “The plans of the diligent lead surely to advantage, But everyone who is hasty comes surely to poverty.” Prov. 21.5
  • “Without consultation, plans are frustrated, But with many counselors they succeed.” Prov. 15.22
  • “The mind of man plans his way, But the LORD directs his steps.” Prov. 16.9
  • “Commit your works to the LORD, And your plans will be established.” Prov. 16.3

Here’s my question for you:

What do you want your 2011 to be about and what are you doing now to make it happen?

Change Your Focus To Confirm Who God Is

Sunday, November 7th, 2010

Have you ever fixated on something to the point that it just takes over your life? You can’t think about anything else. You worry about it to the point that it becomes this huge sore that affects the way you look, the way you think, the way you act, and the way you make decisions. It becomes so overwhelming that it robs you of any peace or hope for something better.

Then there are the nagging thoughts that build up barriers to living the life God desires for you. They keep you timid an unable to make decisions with confidence. Instead of living in your potential you’re fixated on the flaws, the failures, the what ifs, and the why not’s. Your focus is blurred with a vision of doubt instead of a vision of hope.

I will confess, that I have many examples of this in my own life. Things that I should have left alone but just couldn’t. I just had to dig at them and focus on them until they became bigger and uglier then they needed to be. I have the lies that repeat over and over in my head distracting me from becoming all God’s created me to be.

It is said that what we focus on grows…it magnifies. Good or bad, healthy or unhealthy…death or life. Either way it will grow and bring results. Big Eye

Unfortunately, I’m often in need of a focus adjustment. Actually, the theme for this blog and ministry came out of a focus adjustment from God. It was during one of my morning walks when God told me to stop fixating on what I don’t have or where I’m not and instead embrace where I am—who I am—who He is and what He is doing in me.

Mark Batterson, in his book In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day says, “Don’t let what’s wrong with you keep you from worshipping what’s right with God. Reframing problems is about shifting focus. You stop focusing on what’s wrong with your circumstances. And you start focusing on what’s right with God….zoom out and refocus on the big picture.

Focus on whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, and if there is anything excellent and worthy of praise. (Philippians 4:8)

Everyday we are faced with choices on what to focus on. We can either focus on things that will better us or we can zoom in on that one flaw or that one problem that keeps us from missing out on living in the bigger picture.

We can either focus on that one excuse or we can choose to trust God and step out in faith to experience all He created for us to do and be.

We can either focus on that one problem or choose to change our perspective and live in the blessings of today.

We can either focus on that one failure or we can choose to believe the truth and live in the fullness of His grace and forgiveness.

We can either focus on what God isn’t doing or we can choose to focus on what is right with God.

Romans 3:31 (The Message) says, “But by shifting our focus from what we do to what God does, don’t we cancel out all our careful keeping of the rules and ways God commanded? Not at all. What happens, in fact, is that by putting that entire way of life in its proper place, we confirm it.”

What happens when we choose to focus on who God is and what He has done…we confirm the Truth about who God is in our hearts and through our lives.

Lord, please, when our focus begins to stray from who you are to what we are not, please turn our hearts and eyes towards you. Lord, keep our eyes fixed on you, the author and perfecter of our faith. Amen

Embrace the God life, really embrace it, and nothing will be too much for you. Mark 11:22-23 (Message)

Who Defines You?

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

Who defines You? Who or what influences the way you think about yourself? Often times we allow ourselves to be defined by the opinions of others…good or bad, by our successes or failures, or worst of all by that nagging inner voice focusing on our weaknesses in detail. All of these sources for self-evaluation waver in their credibility.  This being so, it is important we have a strong foundation regarding God’s opinion of us—a foundational truth of who we are in the eyes of our creator.

If or when your mind begins to wonder from the truth of “who you are” be reminded of these foundational truths:

You were carefully thought out even before your days on earth even began:
You are not a mistake or just a product of your environment. You were carefully thought out and masterminded before your life even began.

“Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth; all the stages of my life were spread out before you. The days of my life all prepared before I’d even lived one day.” (Psa. 139:16-17 Message)

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” (Jer. 1:5)

You are God’s masterpiece:
God doesn’t make mistakes! God himself created you wonderfully; you are His masterpiece. You are created for good things, NOT bad. God doesn’t wish bad for you, He has good things planned for you.

“For You (God) created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” (Psalm 139:13-14 Message)

“For you are God’s masterpiece. He has created you new in Christ Jesus so you can do good things that he planned for you long ago.” (Eph. 2:10)

You are loved by God and He fills you with His love:
God loves you so much that he sacrificed His only Son for you. His love is unconditional, there is nothing you can do to deserve it; your part is to receive it. You will never hear God say, “If you do this I won’t love you anymore.” There is nothing that can make Him stop loving you and there is nothing that can ever separate you from His love. You may have days where you feel unloved or unlovable but His love is ever present and forever extended with open arms of grace.

“In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His only Son to be the propitiation for our sins.” (1John 4:10)

“And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit whom he has given us.” (Rom. 5:5)

“Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Rom. 8:35,37-39)

You are forgiven:
Don’t wallow in guilt. God offers you forgiveness for all sin freeing you from any internment of guilt. You are not only forgiven but also redeemed to walk in righteousness. For you no longer are subject to darkness but can walk in Light with eyes wide open to the Truth that frees you.

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” (1John 1:9 NIV)

“Give thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” (Col. 1:12-14 NIV)

You are a child of God:
You belong to God; you are a part of His family. You are His precious child…He is your Father! This truth will never change!

“To all who received Him (as Lord), to those who believed in his name (Jesus Christ), he gave the right to become children of God—children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.” (John 1:12-13 NIV)

“For in Him we live and move and have our being. As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.” (Acts 17:28)

You are the sacred temple of God:
God loves you so much that He sees your life as a sacred temple—a place for the indwelling of the Holy Spirit—the Spirit of Jesus Christ. With His Holy Spirit you are forever sealed (protected) as HIS.

“Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him; for God’s temple is sacred, and you are that temple.” (1Cor. 3:16-17)

“Repent and be baptized, everyone of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 2:38)

“And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit.” (Eph. 1:13)

You are valuable to God:
You are so valuable to God; He is concerned with every detail of your life. He has numbered every hair on your head. He has even determined the exact time and place you should live. If God cared enough to do all this for you will He not care enough to meet your every need, to hear your silent cries, and to carry your deepest burden…YES, He will! You are valuable…speak His value into your life! He is concerned with the details of your life.

“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable then they? (Matt 6:26)

“And even the hairs on your head are numbered. So don’t be afraid, you are worth more than many sparrows.” (Matt. 10:30-31)

“From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times and the exact places where they should live.” (Acts 17:26)

“O LORD, you have searched me and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.” (Psa. 139:1-3)

You are chosen by God:
God chose you! He picked you to be on His team—in His family—to receive His benefits. He wants you for eternity. Have you ever just wanted to be one of the chosen elite….well you are! You are God’s chosen elite.

“But you are the ones chosen by God, chosen for the high calling of priestly work, chosen to be a holy people, God’s instruments to do his work and speak out for him, to tell others of the night-and-day difference he made for you.” 1(Peter 2:9 Message)

“For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love.” (Eph. 1:4 NIV)

“In Him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, in order that we, who were the first to hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory.” (Eph. 1:11-12 NIV)

God wants you to prosper:
God doesn’t just want you to just get by or struggle in life. He wants you to prosper (to flourish, to thrive, to grow), don’t accept anything less then God’s plan for your life. Continue to work out your salvation (to press on in your faith) for God wants to work in you for His GOOD purpose.

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” (Jer. 29:11 NIV)

“—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling (fear of not wanting to miss out!), for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.” (Phil. 2:12-13)

“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” (3John 2)

Gods eternal promise to you:
God is not finished with you! He is working to develop and perfect you into the mirror image of the glory of God. Whatever stage you’re at in life, whatever circumstances you’re engulfed in, God is still working. Your hope is in believing (confessing) that He is working out His very best in you.

“I am convinced and sure of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will continue until the day of Jesus Christ developing and perfecting and bringing it in to completion in you.” (Phil 1:16)

“But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed in the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.” (2Cor. 3:18)

What foundational truth do you build you self worth on? Who or what defines you?
