It took place in the Garden of Gethsemane right before the soldiers were to come and take him away to be crucified. Jesus knowing what was to come was feeling overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death.

Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”

Jesus didn’t plead with God to persuade him to change his plan—he pleaded for another way. Jesus wanted and understood that God’s purpose had to be filled for the salvation of his people. This was a time where the sacrifice would take more than His life; it would take a suffering beyond what any of us could ever endure. It would take strength beyond our strongest ability. It was a decision that would alter the course of life—of my life—of your life—for eternity. I don’t believe there was ever a moment when Jesus doubted his willingness to follow through with his decision. He had decided long before this moment that He would fulfill the will of his Father.  “For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.”John 6:38 Jesus attitude was “So be it!” If there is no other way than “So be it”. Whatever it takes I WILL PAY THE PRICE!

If this is what it takes for my children to have a relationship with me…than so be it!
If this is what it takes for my children to have forgiveness…than so be it!
If this is what it takes for my children to have freedom from the guilt and curse of sin…than so be it!
If this is what it takes for my children to have victory over Satan…than so be it!
If this is what it takes for my children to have life abundantly…than so be it!
If this is what it takes for the price of sin to be paid once and for all…than so be it!
“Father if this is what it takes for your will to be done…than so be it!”

I can’t even begin to grasp the magnitude of the burden that took Jesus to His knees that day and ultimately to the cross. I can’t imagine the aching love felt for each of us as He saw our faces through His eyes of grace. What I can imagine, because I experience it daily, is an outpouring of His love as He pours out his forgiveness and relentless grace on me faithfully.
